Chacate Preto

Attractive, fine-grained heartwood from southern Africa. With its dark brown to almost black colour and light brown streaks, this is one of the most appealing exotic woods. It is easy to glue, varnish and polish, and is highly resistant to moisture, fungi and insect attacks. It is mainly used for floors and furniture as well as wood turning and sculpting. Density approx. 1150 kg/m³.
Considered a precious wood in Africa, the heartwood is dark brown near black with lighter honey brown longitudinal streaks, can also be slightly greenish in color. The wood is moderately lustrous with an interlocked grain and fine texture. This type of wood has been compared to another African species, African Blackwood, but is only half the price!
